That Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Lingers Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked ending of a explicitly bloody as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, bleak and often savage universe with several minor , desolate hints of optimism.
Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to advance the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather a try to convey a widespread, multicultural theme about “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That idea is conveyed via a group of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly modeled after a popular series of lovable characters.
Being raised in a community built around militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, many of the bears are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, thanks to a holy book that claims the bears they previously were rulers of the woodland, until the unicorns drove them out.
A few have not completely fallen for the indoctrination, , would rather sample substances or fornicate outdoors.
Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters display genitals and obvious urges.
For a certain notably brutal, skeptical animal, Bluey, the battle against the unicorns becomes a road to control — and specifically to authority above his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.
Bluey behaves aggressively , a seeming antisocial figure , and as terror dominates his unit and takes his fellow soldiers sequentially, he grabs more and more influence for himself, through ever more gory, harmful methods.
At the same time, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, through an expanding, deadly beast in their forest.
“Initially, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “However it turns into a more serious and sad film. And in the finale, it becomes a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical movies by a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in letting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Afterward it becomes something more like a more grim movie by that same artist, with increasingly graphic violence and a palpable link to the real tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it is an outright Grand Guignol massacre.
The horror which makes the film a perfect Halloween watch kicks in much sooner than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted fans of gore, for lovers of extreme cinema who want to watch something they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a narrative which delivers unflinching brutality.
View it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the finale will dig deep within you and stay with you.
