The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is his initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after spring of that year.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
