President Trump Calls Families of Injured Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Attendees gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and cease issuing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
