Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
