Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The large audience will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as award-winning actors.
Centred Around Compassion and Love
The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.
Within the audience will be people from various age groups.
That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
