Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
